The Story Behind Our Bracelets

I’ve heard the questions and speculations for quite awhile now. That little red bracelet on my arm, what does it represent? This one has been on for over a year and I thought it was about time to share the full story. my-prayer-bracelet I like to keep my accessories minimalistic. There is a time to shine and make a statement, but on the regular, I love simplicity and my every day jewelry to be loaded with meaning. This little red piece of yarn strongly knotted around my wrist is no different. Tamera and Aden Many have thought I was wearing a Kabbalah bracelet, however this string has no Jewish ties for me. The red string has actually been worn in various religions from Hinduism to Christianity, my faith, for centuries. In my family, the tradition was started by my grandmother. For as far back as I can remember she has been buying red yarn and praying over it before passing along to the intended wearer. She blesses the yarn with good fortune, and the belief goes that when it falls off great things will happen. The practice has been passed and now my mother sends the bracelets to family and friends and anyone who wants the protection. I love that it not only has a positive energy, but that it’s a daily reminder of my faith. Aden wears one as well and has since he was born. When each of ours falls off (whether the right or left wrist), a new one is sent to ward off any misfortune. With a healthy, loving husband and son, an incredible career, unbelievable friends and a baby on the way, I like to think the blessings and power of this thin red bracelet are working. Xx, Tamera

  1. The power is not in the string, it is in Jesus.
As a person from the Caribbean I implore you to becareful with the symbolism of thr red string. Many Caribbean persons still carry on the tradition ignorant of its ties to obeahism. Im not saying that u or ur grandma are associated with such practices.
It is the blessing and favor of the Lord why you are so successful! The red string has ntn to do with it!
    Peace!

    1. no it’s not in the string, it is in Jesus, who shed his Red blood for our sins, but it reminds us of the sacrifice he made on our behalf to make us sinners right with God. i think we get so busy in our life we forget that so if i wore one every time i looked at it i would remember to remember who loves us always and forever.

  2. Isn’t the power of Jesus much stronger than a red string? One must have faith and believe his protection is over us constant. When you believe in strings or any kind of super station you open yourself to that kind of energy. Those strings are really meant to guard from evil doings, but Jesus does that for me without a string. Just saying!

    1. She didn’t say that the power lies in the bracelet, its just a representation of her faith. I think it’s such a beautiful thing. Her faith is what protects her, her bracelet is just a reminder of her faith. Go girl.

      1. Thats just it. She doesnt need a representation of her faith! You suppose to carry it in you heart. Its called faith, believing in in God without seeing or touching. This article was written yo mislead us. So other people will do it too, not knowing the real true

      2. Please read the article, I by no means commented to start an argument but simply express my beliefs. Jesus is much powerful than a string and Jesus’s protection is his promise simply for those who believe in him not for those who wear a red string.

These are her words, not mine.

When each of ours falls off (whether the right or left wrist), a new one is sent to ward off any misfortune. With a healthy, loving husband and son, an incredible career, unbelievable friends and a baby on the way, I like to think the blessings and power of this thin red bracelet are working.

The power of that red string…I’m sorry Jesus blesses us not a string. :/

        1. Acts 19:11-12
11 Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.

      3. The word of God, in fact, instructs us not to make images that we revere. So whether it is the cross or red string, if you hold it up like that you are committing idolatry. Our symbol is the very essence of our faith, that is, direct faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross.

    2. I strongly agree I had posted a comment about getting one but after reading your comment the power of Jesus is way much stronger than the power of a red string ….thank you for opening up my eyes and deleting that comment lol thanks

      1. We don’t wear it for the power…. We know where our help comes from, and that’s from the man above… The string is a reminder that we are covered in his blood and no weapon in hell shall form against us…now I’m going to put my faith in god and look at bracelet as I type this and hope that god gives you your own understanding… And if u never understand god hasn’t intended you too… Build your own relationship with him… Maybe he’ll tell u what it is that you need to be doing in your life to show acknowledgement to him… Some of you people are monkey see and monkey do’s ! Follow your own mind

        1. Thank you for this, I don’t wear one and didn’t know the history behind it until I read this and was bothered by all the native comments. Even without wearing one I could tell the sentiment and the fact that it’s just a symbol and reminder. People are so high and mighty these days an quick to judge

        2. No, don’t follow your own mind. Follow the word of Jesus. And nowhere in the bible does he tell us to wear red yarn as a reminder of our faith or as protection. The only reminder we need is the bible in our hearts

    3. So true . In the Bible God says not to use object to represent him/good fortune. He is spirit , you can only have a relationship with him if YOU worship him in spirit and truth !!

    4. In Jesus’ name , amen. Well said, a piece of string does nothing no matter the sentimentality that may be attached. An individual cannot protect, bless or send good fortune to another through woven fabric. God’s will be done; worship the Creator and not the created. Hebrews 11:1 is a good place to begin.

    5. I’m pretty sure it’s just a symbol and reminder and she knows that it’s God that blesses her and her family. Like some people have prayer cloths or a bottle of oil that’s been prayed over that they use

    6. Amen,
Its the truth that is spoken. No offense but shes just following a family tradition.. understanding why sometimes chains must break so one can see and know that …..the Word is our Power over all wickedness i. JESUS NAME. HENCEFORTH. I. THE BEGINNING IS THE WORD AND So shall it be in the end.

    7. true i agreed im 10 yrs old…. my parents are christians they are disciples of God…..and God is the very very very very very very very very powerful!!!!!!!!! if u have a faith in God then he will blessed u,we,us who has a faith in God…. and God gave what i need without a string!!!!!!!!

    8. If that’s the case, then crosses should come off of the necks of believers, and blessed oil should be done away with…SMH…she said her grandma PRAYED…I’m going to infer that she was praying to GOD. It’s symbolic….that’s ALL

      1. We should do away with these crosses and oil. When we die, we won’t have them with us. Only thing we’ll have is the word of Jesus in our hearts or not. That’s all that matters

        1. When I’m dead, NOTHING will matter. Oil was used in the bible, and was poured onto the feet of our Lord and Saviour from Mary’s alabaster box….if given the opportunity to have that very same oil that touched the feet of Jesus, you’d turn it dwn? Just a question…at any rate, instead of folks being SO overly criticalbcuz about a red string… go out into the world and preach the Gospel to NON-BELIEVERS…and while you’re at it snatch the rosary beads from the Catholics and the juice and crackers on 1st Sunday as well….

          1. When you die only 1 thing will matter, wether you accepted Jesus into your heart or not. As for the oil question.. It would be a nice thing to accept, but it wouldn’t help me in any way to get to heaven or save my soul, so why would I want it? But anyway, people have their own truth and believe in what best suits them in the moment. If the bible told me to wear a red string to remember him, I would. But the only thing he left us with, to live by, is the bible. I’ll take that over a string ANY day.

  3. It’s just a symbol of her religious belief. The same way we wear the cross on our chains…is God’s love and the death of Jesus not enough that we must wear it on our necks? Of course it is, but it reminds us that he died on the cross for us. The bracelet reminds her of God’s protection. When we get holy oil and pray over each other, our houses or our cars is it not protection we are asking for? That is exactly what the bracket means to her. Do not point the finger at her and ask is God not enoug and tell her to be careful. Not everything a celebrity does is of the devil. It’s a beautiful token of faith and gratitude to our God.

    1. Naa, while we understand symbol of religious belief and the meaning of the cross on our chains, but as believers in Jesus Christ,we do not/or should not believe those symbols are whats bringing us the blessings, please check the meaning of symbols, we love Tamera and I am sure No One is saying anything about the devil. I am sure most of us referring to the last paragraph, please read the last paragraph again it seem to be stating the red string is bringing her Blessings, which we know is not the facts, its God that Blessings her. Our defense of Someone or anything should always be based on truth, especially the truth of God’s word… Blessings

      1. I fail to see how her bracelet reminding her of her faith is any different than the “wwjd” bracelets that have been sold for so many years. Her bracelet is not giving her blessings any more than other people’s bracelets are making them choose better decisions.

  4. Tamera I know everybody is free to believe what they want because God gives us free will but if you’re looking to know more of God and His word please consider going to the Bible and what it says about amulets. Here’s some good info about it: http://www.bibleinfo.com/en/questions/what-does-god-say-about-people-who-use-amulets
Don’t let the enemy fool you. Many times we think we’re doing something good for our family when we are really ignorant of the spiritual world and the enemy.

    1. I believe in her heart she knows but she choose those checks! She said it herself that her biggest fear is failure, which tells me she’s willing to use her fame to mislead as many of he “fans” away from Jesus as possible. As long as those checks coming….

      1. That is a horrible thing to say, just horrible. She chose the cheques as opposed to what? She has never denied her faith throughout her career she’s been bery vocal about it. The same as people pray over oil and anoint things with it or wear a cross on their chains or a wwjd bracelet it’s just a reminder of her faith and their protection of God. If you don’t personally need or any that then that’s fine but to condemn others or accuse them of luring fans away from God for success and money is hideous and judgemental
