I’ve heard the questions and speculations for quite awhile now. That little red bracelet on my arm, what does it represent? This one has been on for over a year and I thought it was about time to share the full story.
I like to keep my accessories minimalistic. There is a time to shine and make a statement, but on the regular, I love simplicity and my every day jewelry to be loaded with meaning. This little red piece of yarn strongly knotted around my wrist is no different.
Many have thought I was wearing a Kabbalah bracelet, however this string has no Jewish ties for me. The red string has actually been worn in various religions from Hinduism to Christianity, my faith, for centuries. In my family, the tradition was started by my grandmother. For as far back as I can remember she has been buying red yarn and praying over it before passing along to the intended wearer. She blesses the yarn with good fortune, and the belief goes that when it falls off great things will happen. The practice has been passed and now my mother sends the bracelets to family and friends and anyone who wants the protection.
I love that it not only has a positive energy, but that it’s a daily reminder of my faith. Aden wears one as well and has since he was born. When each of ours falls off (whether the right or left wrist), a new one is sent to ward off any misfortune. With a healthy, loving husband and son, an incredible career, unbelievable friends and a baby on the way, I like to think the blessings and power of this thin red bracelet are working.
Xx,
Tamera

Can your Mom bless and send one to me as well? Lord knows I need it! :-(
I’d like one too!
Sweet! I wish to find a sweet tradition for my family once I have children too! I love little things like this!
You have the power of Jesus. That red string has no power behind it. I enjoyed the story but, our strength and Blessing comes from God himself.
Yes our blessing come from the Lord Jesus Christ and not a red string around your wrist.
Having a visual reminder in times of crisis can actually strengthen one’s faith. People wear crosses, do they not? To remind themselves of what Jesus did for those he loves? How is this any different?
The different is in reading the last paragraph the red string seem to be getting the GLORY for Tamera’s blessings, and not Jesus our Lord. You are correct in what you said about the cross.
I was looking for a comment like this because this is exactly my point. Maybe Tamera does know this, but her choice of words say that she’s giving more importance to the string than the actual source of our protection, and that is Jesus Christ Himself! I completely agree with you, and little physical reminders like the cross or this string are okay, but giving it any more importance than that is…. more or less idolatry.
As a follower of Jesus Christ, I take it very serious to speak truth based on God’s word. We should not as
christian’s ” true believer’s” of Jesus Christ change the meaning/or understanding of God’s word.
It should not matter who the person is we should speak truth based on God’s word, that is the reason we need to be careful who we listen to or follow, also who we allow to speak into our lives. I pray that she does know that all good and perfect gifts came from God, as the bible states, and no symbols, whether prayed over or not does not brings any blessings, or
protection! its all from God.
I pray that it was just choice of words used, and she does realize ALL blessings came from our God.
She is just like all of us, we make mistakes! pray for
her.
It says in the Word itself that they are not ok.
I, too, was surprised and disappointed that she gives credit to a piece of string for her blessings. There’s no mention of Christ. Also, I looked at several pictures of the kids and didn’t see red string on them.
Absolutley!
Thank you
Catholics wears the cross with “Jesus” on it ; protestants wear the empty cross as Jesus is no longer on that cross #GLORY!!!!!! But, I feel that none of these is truly necessary; Why the crucifix, why the empty cross? When He lives in you !!! Hallelujah
And in the Word it says that they are not supposed to. It talks about all of this in the Word. They use graven images to “worship”, they worship the image and not God
It just a tradition she has . What gives you the right to lecture her how her traditional works. Her grandmother blesses them with God’s words. I don’t think there’s anything is wrong with that. At least she believes in god or in something if she doesn’t. If you believed in something that run in your family wouldn’t cherish it with all your heart. Many wear crosses how that any different from a simple red string?
We’re not saying she shouldn’t wear her red yarn but to attribute it to the blessings in her life is preposterous.
It looks good as an accessory by the way.
It doesn’t say that her grandmother blesses them with God’s words. It says she blesses them with good fortune. The practice is superstitious and not Christian.
In my culture we do the same thing when a baby is born to bless the red peace of string or yarn to bring blessings to the new born baby an to keep away bad vibes..Belizean culture past down from generation I was intrege when i seen this post didn’t know this was followed by others.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing!
