As a working mother and wife, I need all of the energy that I can get! But like most people who have a lot on their plate, sometimes you hit that point in the day when you feel your energy levels start to drop. I have to admit that coffee used to be my go-to way for getting through early mornings and long days — But I notice (I’m sure you guys to too), that when I drink coffee, my energy always seems to go back down by mid-day. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not against drinking coffee … I just believe in drinking it in moderation, and using other ways to stay focused and energized.

Ever since last year when I made my health and wellbeing a bigger priority, I have found some pretty great energy-boosting solutions that have made a difference for me long-term.

Today I wanted to share with you guys the combination of habits that I have found make a BIG difference in making me feel more consistently energized throughout the day:

Get enough sleep

There is no denying that after a late night or one spent tossing and turning you are left exhausted. To avoid this, get enough sleep by planning your schedule ahead of time so that you literally schedule sleep. I know that sounds crazy, but sleep and rest have to be a priority! Wake up and think about your goals so you get motivated to start the day: Wake up with a purpose! Before you get out of bed, or even look at your phone, think about your goals for the day and how your will achieve or work towards them. When I stop and think about my goals and set a purpose for my day, I’m excited to get out of bed and start making things happen!

Get sunlight/daylight in the morning

Try and step outside for at least 15 minutes in the morning. This is both emotionally and physically beneficial. Breathing in fresh air and feeling the daylight on your face will help you feel refreshed and recharged, and it also has great benefits for your hormone levels.

Eat superfoods for breakfast

Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. In order to fight fatigue, you have to eat breakfast. Reach for something that is packed with nutrients to keep you energized throughout the entire day. I like to make a green smoothie which is made with spinach and hemp hearts.

Drink water first thing in the morning

The body needs water! After you wake up you likely haven’t hydrated for a full eight hours, so reach for a glass of water first thing! We often forget how important hydration is for our immune systems. If you prefer to reach for something hot first thing in the morning, try some hot water with lemon.

Stretch

Stretching is great for releasing toxins from your muscles, as well as helping to get your blood flowing. By doing a few simple stretches in the morning you will energize your mind and body.

Clean your bedroom so you wake up in a clean, fresh space

A clean and uncluttered space with help your start off the day with a clear mind. Try tidying up your bedroom before you go to sleep so that you wake up to a fresh space.

Take deep breaths in the morning

Start your day with some breathing exercises to increase the flow of oxygen throughout your body (I do this while I stretch). Inhale a deep breath through your nose, hold it for 4-7 seconds and then exhale from your mouth. Not only does the oxygen give you energy, but it tends to calm the mind as well.

Listen to music that makes you happy while you are getting dressed

Music has an incredible way of influencing your mood. Start your morning off by listening to music that makes you feel happy and energized. I always find that music can seriously elevate my mood and energy levels.

Pack healthy snacks to have throughout the day:

Foods packed full of healthy fats like nuts are natural brain boosters, and also offer protein — Both of which can help you stay focused and motivated throughout the day.

How else do you guys like to keep your energy up? If you have any other tips for me, please let me know!

  1. Been feeling tired alot lately and I have been looking for a healthy alternative to help me wake up and feel engergized. I am gonna try this out. Thank you

  2. Eating healthy! And meals that aren’t heavy is a HUGE deal!
I didn’t realize how much food can weigh you down until i started eating healthy (and went vegan). Now, when i eat a heavy meal i get the itis and i feel tired because my body isn’t used to it anymore. So my tips:
    1) save the heavy meal for dinner, eat light and healthy during the day
    2) Start the day with a big, nutrient packed smoothie. Mine lasts me until around 1 to 2 pm, it keeps me full, lessens my cravings (for those unhealthy, itis foods), and ENERGIZED
