Aden’s Summer Project

If you follow me on Instagram you might’ve seen me post about Aden’s latest summer project… Gardening! My favorite thing about the summer is all the time we get to spend just hanging out together outdoors. You don’t have to go on a road trip or vacation to soak up the sun – as you know from Aden and Ariah’s kiddie pool fun, it’s all about getting creative and finding new ways to enjoy the season together.

Aden Gardening - Tamera Mowry

Aden is the shadow of Adam, guys. Adam is always keeping our gardens fresh and healthy, and Aden has started helping out – mimicking his every move. Kids this age just really want to be involved, and by welcoming their input and including them on household projects and hobbies, they learn from your expertise. They’re so impressionable and are soaking it all in. Plus, he’s getting good!

The goods. A family that gardens together stays together! We each have our own tools.

What’s your favorite low-key summer activity? And how do your little ones help out around the house?

Summer to Fall Style

It’s pretty tough to gear up for a new season when we’re busy trying to stay cool in the hot sun, but fall fashion is one of my absolute faves! Boots, layers, hats – it’s all about mix ‘n match and experimenting with autumn tones. And since you’re about to see fall style everywhere, I figured it was about time I shared one of my favorite outfits for transitioning into the new season.

Must-have #1: A short swing dress! It’s lightweight for warm days but the mustard color and long sleeves scream fall. This one is sold out but I found some similar ones:

Next up, a long statement necklace. Fall layering isn’t just about sweaters, but jewelry too.

But the most important part of the look? Fall boots of course – Steve Madden has a great pair of classic black, over the knee boots. Stay tuned for more of my faves!

Lastly, to top it all off: a felt fedora.

Mommy Hacks: 4 Ways to Keep Cool on Hot Days

Hope you all had a fantastic 4th of July. We just experienced our first major heat wave of the summer here in Southern California. (Just in time for mine and Ariah’s b-days and 4th of July no less. Whew!) Who can blame their littles for being fussy in this heat? Summer is my favorite time of year, but dehydration and over exposure is NOT why. As moms, it’s something we really don’t want to mess with.

Keeping Cool in the Heat - Tamera mowry

Here are all the ways we’ve been keeping cool (and happy) during this heat wave!

Limiting time in the sun. The hours of 10-3 are when the sun’s at its harshest. When I didn’t have children, this meant hours at the beach. But young children are very sensitive to heat and sun, so now I make sure not to plan any prolonged outdoor activities during this time. Take a dip in the pool or go to the park in the AM or early evening instead as a way to feel more refreshed. And anytime they’re in the sun, sunscreen is imperative. Can’t stress this enough! Go with at least SPF 50 for little ones.

Staying hydrated. This is so important, guys. Whether outside or in, we all need that h2O. When you see those temps rising, mix up an extra batch of yummy infused water for a refreshing drink that you won’t have to force on tired kids. Plus, handing them this instead of juice not only hydrates them but prevents the dreaded sugar crash.

Mist and repeat. This one’s an easy refresher: simply fill a spray bottle with water for a refreshing cool down on the go. Even in the seconds before the AC kicks in or when walking short distances, this bottle will come in handy. The best part is that it’s free and portable… Exactly what a mommy needs.

Chillin’ in the kiddie pool. Yep, it’s a family activity around here. Look how happy Ariah is! With temps this high, there’s no way around it: the kids need to cool off with some water. Breaking out an inexpensive kiddie pool is the way to go. It’s not a production like heading to the beach and you can put it in the shade or limit time to quick play sessions before the sun gets to be too much. Plus, it’s a great time for play that’s not too exhausting for little ones. Just don’t forget the sunscreen ;)

How do you cool your kids off in a heat wave? It’s tough when you’re hot too!

Wear It: Swimsuits for Every Style

So who’s feeling ready for swimsuit season? No matter where you are in your workout regimen, a swimsuit that you feel good in does wonders for your confidence. While there definitely are swimsuits that are more flattering on different body types, it’s really all about what suits YOU (no pun intended).

Do you gravitate toward bold styles or cuts in your everyday wardrobe? Then you might want to try a plunging neckline or funky print. Do you like the retro styles? Those with the structured bust and high waisted bottoms may be more your style. If you’re feeling a little lost when shopping for swimwear, take a look at thepieces above – which styles draw you in? That’s a great place to start.

My personal favorites are the sweetheart necklines and either strapless or halter look. I’ve come across both bikinis and one pieces that are equally sexy and fun, so I’m always on the lookout for either type. And you can’t go wrong with stripes, a little ruffle, or a feminine floral print. These days, there’s something for everyone (and every event), so it’s nice to keep those options open!

Are you looking for a new swimsuit this summer, or do you already have a go-to?
